Background & Experience

Coach DJ Mims serves as the Head Football Coach at Puyallup High School, bringing passion, energy, and a relationship-driven approach to the Vikings football program. Known as a respected leader and mentor, Coach Mims has built his reputation on developing student-athletes both on and off the field while fostering a culture rooted in toughness, accountability, and family.

Now entering his 11th season coaching and 6th season as a Head Coach, Coach Mims previously led programs at Mercer Island High School for three seasons and Life Christian Academy for one season. Prior to becoming a head coach, he served as an assistant coach at Franklin Pierce High School and Foss High School, helping develop competitive programs and strong team cultures throughout the South Sound.

Known for his relentless work ethic and ability to connect with players, Coach Mims emphasizes building meaningful relationships while helping young men reach their full potential. His leadership has helped establish a competitive and disciplined program that takes pride in representing the Puyallup community the right way.

Coaching Philosophy

Coach Mims believes football is one of the greatest tools to teach life lessons. His philosophy centers around discipline, accountability, brotherhood, and consistency. He is committed to developing young men who will succeed not only in football, but in the classroom, their homes, and their future careers. Coach Mims believes true success is defined by character, effort, and the impact players leave on others long after their playing days are over.
